The Association of Secretaries (UK) was founded in 1979.

The Sheffield Branch (original website www.uksecretaries.co.uk) held its inaugural meeting on Monday 5 December 1983 at the Hallam Tower Hotel in Sheffield, where thirty-two founding members were enrolled. We now meet at the Park Inn, Blonk Street, Sheffield, usually on the third Monday of every month commencing at 7.30 pm with a short business meeting, followed by a guest speaker at about 8.00 pm.  The presentations are very wide-ranging and interesting, being sometimes business-orientated and sometimes more personal.

Our aims and objectives include organising fundraising events to support local charities. We also have a very active programme of visits to places of interest around our Region.

Annually in October, members from all the UK Branches attend the two-day Annual Convention which is open to all members and is hosted by different branches in rotation. The Presidents and Secretaries of all Branches also attend the Joint Committee Meeting to discuss policy. Historically, the JCM was always held as a separate meeting annually in Spring, but from 2004 it has been decided to hold the JCM on the Sunday morning of the Convention Weekend.  The 2009 Convention was held in Glasgow and in 2010 it will be in Durham, hosted by the Tyne and Wear Branch.

Most branches are run by a Committee and Sheffield is no exception, with our President, Vice President and six other very lively Committee Members who keep us in good order.

We have a monthly Newsletter that incorporates contributions not only from the Newsletter Editor but also from the general membership as items of interest occur. Branch funds allow for sending cards on birthdays and other occasions.

Our membership subscription is currently £15.00 "across the board". We have a very informal and friendly atmosphere and are always looking forward to welcoming new members, so why not come along to one of the meetings (under no obligation) to see if you would like to join us?  Contact us
